It’s almost prom shopping season, and this article is about the prom dress.

In once sense, that is true. The girl will likely wear the dress just one time. But in another sense, it’s not true. A prom dress is more than the actual dress. It’s about the experience had and feelings felt while wearing it.

Girls sometimes will put on a dress and say it’s their “dream dress.” What does that mean? It means that they will remember that prom dress for the rest of their lives. They will remember for the rest of their lives how beautiful they felt on that one night, and how special it was to wear that dream dress.

I’m going back several years here, to my own prom. I wore a long-sleeved white dress with little flowers on it. It was the bridesmaid dress I wore in my brother’s wedding. It was completely ugly, but I wore it because it was hanging in the closet and I felt at the time I should wear it. Years later, what do I remember about my prom? I remember that I wore an ugly dress.

That’s something to remember before saying that a prom dress is only for “one night.” It will be worn likely for one night, yes. But it will be remembered for a lifetime.

I know that a prom dress can be expensive, very expensive. Families need to have an idea of how much they want to spend. But just remember, the girl wearing the dress needs to love it. It needs to be her dream dress. She will remember it the rest of her life.
